If you’re looking for a power-packed, stylish Android phone, Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc has it all. It is one of the thinnest smartphones available these days. Not only that, but it’s also among the easiest to handle Android phones out there. The Xperia Arc is Sony’s biggest Android phone. It may not be powered by a dual-core processor, yet it is full of power. The Xperia Arc runs the latest Android platform and has everything you would expect for a smartphone. It’s fast and reasonably priced.
External Features
The Xperia Arc is obviously marketed towards fashion-conscious shoppers. It is wrapped with very neat curves at 4.1 ounces making it pleasurable to hold. It is equipped with 4.2-inch screen display to accommodate 854×480 pixels. Physical buttons are spontaneous, wide, easily recognizable and responsive. The only problem with Arc’s physical buttons is the couple of lights between keys making it hard to identify when used in the dark. Even so, the keypad is satisfactory. The overall exterior of Xperia Arc is standard which consists of MicroUSB port and volume rocker on the left; headphone jack at the right; and HDMI and diminutive power key on the top. The shutter button is positioned at the extreme lower right side of the phone making it difficult to operate sometimes. Overall, the Xperia Arc is a stylishly durable phone.
Internal Features
Sony Xperia Arc is powered by 1GHz Qualcomm MSM 8255 Snapdragon processor and the latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread. It is backed by Adreno 205 GPU, 8MP Exmor R image sensor, 16GB internal storage, 512MB RAM and 1500mAh battery. Nothing’s new as far as connectivity is concerned, which include 3G, EDGE, GPRS, GPS, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. The 8MP dual flash camera can shoot 720p HD video. Its web browser is remarkably fast and straightforward and has Flash-support so watching videos online and flash-rich contents is done easily. Battery life is average that requires overnight charge every other day.
Advantages
Among the best things about Xperia Arc is its stunningly huge, brilliant screen display. Besides, it’s super slim making it pocket-friendly. Pictures and videos are great on its Reality Display influenced by Sony TVs Bravia technology. Its other nice features include touch focus, numerous scene modes, fast interface and excellent face detection. Moreover, general messaging is exceptional on well-presented with SMS app, Facebook and Twitter apps, as well as full email support. Video playback is pleasantly smooth for a single-core processor.
Disadvantages
Its ultra-thin plastic chassis seems delicate without dedicated access to Sony’s film and music catalogues or Play Station content. Besides, the speaker is poor that distorts at maximum range. Camera key feels odd and lacks front-facing camera and smart dialing. Should Sony have backed up Xperia Arc’s impressive external features with powerful software, it could have outshined its competitors.
Conclusion
True, Sony Xperia Arc’s single-core processor could be its weakest point but it’s definitely fast among other single-core handsets. It is packed with functional features in slim and uniquely stylish chassis. And most of all, the huge screen display provides sharp and brilliant images thanks to Sony’s Bravia technology. Sony Xperia Arc makes a great buy indeed.
