Motorola made a brave leap in the smartphone market with Motorola Atrix 4G. It is the most advanced Android phone created by Motorola. And take note, the Atrix 4G isn’t just a smartphone, it is a multi-use phone that can be used as desktop computer, multimedia center, laptop and of course, smartphone. Will it live up to your expectation? Let’s find out.
External Features
Motorola Atrix 4G is made from solid plastic material at 0.43-inch thick. It’s quite solid at 4.8 ounces. Like most smartphones out there, the front is almost all-screen with a 4-inch qHD screen display with ultra-sharp 960×540 pixels resolution. On top of the screen is the front-facing VGA camera and four backlit capacitive Android buttons below that handles typical Android tasks. On the top-rear side of the phone is the power button and headphone jack. On the back of the phone is a 5MP LED flash camera and speaker on the bottom. Along the left side are HDMI and MicroUSB ports, while volume rocker is on the right.
One remarkable feature of Atrix 4G is the fingerprint scanner which serves as the power button as well. This feature adds up an extra level of protection than the typical password security setting. It functions as advertised but sometimes, it’s a bit frustrating when it fails to start up quickly and you have to re-swipe your finger again and again.
Overall, the physical features are excellent and make the unit comfortable to hold.
Internal Features
The Atrix 4G is filled with much power inside. It is packed with the super-fast 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor and Android 2.2 Froyo. Don’t quail, as Motorola is updating Atrix 4G to Android Gingerbread anytime this year. On the other hand, Atrix 4G has 1GB of RAM, 16GB of Rom and additional storage of up to 32GB of memory via the microSD card slot. This massive horsepower is coupled with Atrix’s 960×540-pixel 4-inch qHD touchscreen display covered by Gorilla Glass. Its touch response is excellent while the qHD screen display provides crisp and vivid images. The 5MP camera can shoot 30 FPS 720p videos. The Atrix 4G has the standard connectivity you would expect in a modern smartphone such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and 3G. It is also powered by a gigantic 1930mAh battery. The software works well too with lots of minor improvements to measure up to Android power.
Advantages
The Atrix 4G is surprisingly fast. The fingerprint scanner is a fairly novel feature for extra security. The call quality is excellent, while the earpiece is exceptionally loud and clear. The speakers deliver crisp audio as well. The major plus of Atrix 4G is its 5MP camera that captures outstanding shots in high and low light environments. It also captures excellent HD content and delivers smooth 720p video. Motorola Atrix 4G’s camera is surprisingly good making a viable replacement for your point-and-shoot camera.
Disadvantages
You’ll get disappointed if you’re a fan of non-marker third-party apps because you cannot install them into your phone. Also, there is no 1080p HD video recording while viewing the display under bright daylight is a struggle.
Conclusion
HD and laptop dock are excellent additions yet you have to pay for them. It would be much better to skip this feature because it is not worth the price you will be paying for. Overall, Motorola Atrix 4G is a great buy for Android phone.
